I created Saltair to merge my advocacy (body positivity, self-care) with real, effective bodycare products that look and feel luxurious, inclusive, and grounded in approachability. It's not just a bodycare brand; it's deeply tied to my personal journey and mission of helping others feel comfortable in their own skin.

Insights: Iskra Lawrence, Founder + Co-Owner

Why now and why you?

A core value of the brand Saltair is inclusivity. Printed on the packaging is the brand tagline "Every body is welcome here." Given my background as a body-positivity advocate, I designed the brand so people of different skin tones, body types, and genders feel seen. I noticed that bodycare products often felt plain, clinical, or didn’t feel “exciting” or inclusive. I wanted to bring skincare-level active ingredients (like niacinamide, glycolic acid) into bodycare products and pair them with exotic ingredients and evocative fragrances to create compelling and sensorial products that truly work. My goal was “affordable luxury”—products that feel elevated but are accessible. I have said that in a world where people are often told they’re “never enough,” I want to create a daily ritual of self-care to foster self-love.Today, more than ever, that core value is critically important.

What fuels your competitive advantage?

The combination of effective formulas, with a luxury aesthetic at an approachable price point, beloved by a loyal, diverse, and growing community.

What’s your proudest accomplishment to date?

We have sold over 1 million bottles of Body Oil!

What is the one thing you wish someone had told you?

You don't have to wait until something feels "perfect" or "fixed" to start something meaningful.

"Inclusivity should not be characterized as a trend but rather the way the industry operates."
By Iskra Lawrence, Founder + Co-Owner, Saltair

What would you tell your past self before starting this journey?

Finding a great partner will make the biggest difference. Ben Bennett, founder of The Center, has been a tremendous business partner, giving me structure and business know-how, while I drive the brand’s voice and mission. The partnership is as much driven by shared values and trust as it is commercial success. This is a winning combination for a business partnership.

What does success look like in the next 3-5 years?

In the next 3-5 years, success is defined as continuing to expand brand awareness and reach on a global scale while staying core to our mission and growing our community. On a personal note, it also means continuing to show up for my family and children while inspiring the Saltair community to continue to take care of themselves and each other.

What's one industry trend that is overhyped, and what's being overlooked?

The most overhyped industry trends are performative inclusivity and overinflated prices for flash sales. The most overlooked industry trend is listening to the community and the connection they are craving in order to feel seen and represented.

How do you think the industry needs to evolve?

Inclusivity should not be characterized as a trend but rather the way the industry operates. There has been a lot of movement here, but the industry must continue to push the ball forward in this respect, and there is even more runway to do so in the body market.

If you could wave a magic wand, what one wish would you make for your business?

One wish would be that we could touch every person, everywhere, all at once so that they could experience the Saltair magic and feel the difference.
